God Is the Creator
The Bible begins by declaring that God is the Creator of all things. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1, NIV). Everything in the universe exists because of His power and will. As Creator, God is sovereign, meaning He rules over all things (Psalm 24:1).
God Is Eternal and Unchanging
God has no beginning and no end. “Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” (Psalm 90:2, NIV). Unlike people who change with time, God remains the same forever: “I the Lord do not change.” (Malachi 3:6, NIV).
God Is Holy and Just
God’s holiness sets Him apart from all sin and imperfection. “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” (Isaiah 6:3, NIV). His justice ensures that He judges rightly: “The Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all who wait for him!” (Isaiah 30:18, NIV).
God Is Love
The Bible also reveals that God’s nature is love. “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” (1 John 4:8, NIV). His love is demonstrated through His care for creation and ultimately through sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to save humanity (John 3:16).
God Is All-Powerful, All-Knowing, and Ever-Present
Scripture shows us God’s limitless power, knowledge, and presence. He is omnipotent (all-powerful): “For nothing will be impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37, ESV). He is omniscient (all-knowing): “Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.” (Psalm 147:5, ESV). And He is omnipresent (present everywhere): “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?” (Psalm 139:7, NIV). This means that God has complete authority, perfect knowledge, and is always near to His people.
God Revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
The fullness of God is revealed in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—commonly called the Trinity. Jesus commanded baptism to be done “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19, NIV). This shows us that God is one, yet exists in three distinct persons.
Knowing the One True God
The Bible reveals God as eternal, holy, loving, all-powerful, all-knowing, and ever-present. He is the Creator and Sustainer of all life. Most importantly, He desires a personal relationship with us through Jesus Christ (John 17:3). To know who God is, we must look to Scripture, where He has revealed Himself.
