Scripture Reading
“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” — Romans 5:3–4 (NIV)
Why Suffering Matters
Suffering is not God’s favorite tool—but He uses it. It surfaces dependence, purges pride, calls us to our knees, and teaches lessons we cannot learn any other way. Romans tells us that suffering leads to perseverance, character, and hope. It is a crucible where faith is purified.
Examples in Scripture
Joseph was betrayed, sold, forgotten—but God used his suffering to save nations. Job’s suffering revealed the depth of his faith. Paul endured beatings, shipwrecks, imprisonment yet declared that his sufferings were light compared to eternal glory (2 Corinthians 4:17). Their faith was tested—and strengthened.
Living Through Suffering with Faith
When suffering comes, lean into God—not away. Pray with honesty, cling to Scripture, and surround yourself with believers who uphold you. Let suffering be transformative, not destructive. Hold firmly to the hope set before you (Hebrews 12:1–2).
Faith Invitation
Do not resent hardship but receive it as a refining tool. Ask God to mold you through trials, to teach you reliance, resilience, and deeper trust. May your faith be stronger on the other side than it was before.
