Walking by Faith, Not Circumstances

The Christian life is not about walking by what we see, but by what we believe. The Apostle Paul puts it clearly: “For we live by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7, NIV). Living by faith means that our decisions, attitudes, and outlook are guided by God’s Word rather than our circumstances.

When Sight Can Mislead Us

Sight can be deceiving. What we see may suggest that things are hopeless, but faith reminds us that God is always at work. Abraham is one of the best examples of this. “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8, NIV).

Shifting Our Focus to the Eternal

Living by faith requires us to shift our focus from temporary things to eternal truths. Paul wrote, “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18, NIV). Faith teaches us to anchor our lives in God’s eternal promises rather than fleeting circumstances.

Faith Requires Courage

This kind of faith also requires courage. It means stepping out when God calls, even if we don’t have all the answers. Like Peter stepping onto the water to meet Jesus (Matthew 14:29), living by faith often stretches us beyond our comfort zones. Yet when we trust Him, we find that He is faithful to uphold us.

The Daily Call to Live by Faith

To live by faith, not by sight, is to walk daily with confidence in God’s Word, even when life doesn’t make sense. It is a journey of trust, surrender, and obedience. The more we choose faith over sight, the more we discover the peace, joy, and strength that come from living in God’s promises.
