Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:7 — “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
The Tension Between Sight and Faith
In our world, we are wired to trust what’s tangible. We see the road, we want evidence. But the life of faith often requires trusting before proof. As 2 Corinthians 5:7 reminds us, we are called to walk by faith, not by sight. That can feel counterintuitive or even risky unless we understand what faith sees that eyes cannot.
Faith perceives the invisible: God’s presence, His promises, His shaping work in our lives. It believes what the world cannot see. While sight gives us what’s immediate, faith gives us what’s eternal.
What the Invisible Looks Like in Everyday Life
Walking by faith means believing that God is working when we don’t sense it. In the tension of unanswered prayer, we trust He’s doing something behind the scenes. In seasons of waiting, we believe He is preparing us. In relational struggles, we entrust hearts to His transformative power. What’s invisible often matters more than what’s visible.
Consider Abraham: he believed God would give him descendants as numerous as the stars, though he had no child yet (Romans 4). That faith in the invisible shaped the blueprint of the promise. Our own faith, too, can fuel hope for what God will do next in unseen ways.
Developing Faith in What You Cannot See
- Immerse yourself in God’s Word: Scripture reveals invisible realities and frames the unseen in language we can understand.
- Live testimonies of answered prayers: Record how God has worked before—you’ll see evidence of the invisible stepping into your life.
- Pray for eyes to see: Ask God to help your spiritual sight open. Sometimes we see only what’s immediate because our gaze is too narrow.
- Hold tension in faith: When there’s no visible sign, still choose trust. Let your faith speak louder than your doubts.
When Faith Outpaces Sight
There are seasons when our faith must reach ahead of what we perceive. That’s the nature of spiritual growth. God sometimes invites us into trust first, then reveals more gradually. Our belief helps give birth to His promises.
Don’t wait for full clarity to step. Move by the light you’ve been given. The path may become clearer as you walk, but your first steps often begin in obscurity.
Anchoring Faith in the Unseen Kingdom
We live between two worlds—the seen and the unseen. Let your faith anchor you in the latter. Speak of things not yet seen as though they are real. Live in the confidence that your God is at work, shaping, healing, directing—always present, though unseen.
May your faith grow bold. May you trust what you don’t see. Because the God you cannot see with your eyes is the One holding the universe together (Hebrews 11:3).
